Description
Description: Manuscript agreement, 4 pages, between Sir Maurice Eustace, Lord Chancellor of Ireland and Sir William Dixon for the marriage of Dixon's son, Richard to Eustace's daughter, Mary, and for the marriage of Dixon's daughter, Margaret, to Eustace's nephew, Sir John Eustace. including dowries of £1,200 and lands including Barretstown, Bishop Hill, Duddingstown, Killternan, Ballybotagh, Patrick Street and Hangman's Lane, all in Dublin, Calverstown and part of Kildare town, and many other lands, including areas of County Wexford. A very detailed and interesting 17th century 'pre nup'.
Note: Sir Maurice Eustace (circa 1590-1665) was an Irish landowner, politician, barrister and judge of the seventeenth century who spent the last years of his career as Lord Chancellor of Ireland. This was an office for which he felt himself to be entirely unfit, and in which he was universally agreed to be a failure.
