Description
Description: A man with long beard, cuneform inscription on reverse. Acquired in Persia (Iran) by Captain Denis Pack-Beresford of County Carlow, circa 1855.
Note: Capt. Denis Pack-Beresford was educated at the Royal Academy, Wollwich. He received his commission in 1836 and commenced his career in the Royal Artillery. At the start of the Crimean War he volunteered for active service and was appointed an aide-de-camp to General Cator and accompanied him to the East, including Persia.
