Note: Sic transit gloria mundi is a Latin phrase that means "Thus passes the worldly glory."
The work depicts a silhouette of James Joyce through the window of the toilet door of Davy Byrne's Pub, which Joyce was known to frequent regularly. Inside the pub, Kernoff captures Joyce's unmistakable hat and walking stick resting on a chair.
