Description: The prize consists of a bronze statuette reproducing the recognisable image of Giacomo Puccini, as depicted by Paolo Trubetzkoy in the statue located since 1949 on the square in Torre del Lago, in front of Puccini's villa. Among the recipients were Maria Callas (posthumously), Dame Gwyneth Jones, Luciano Pavorotti, Woody Allen and Andrea Bocelli.Recipient of this example is unknown. cast by Del Charo, Lucca.
Note: Established in 1971, the award was for the female voice which Giacomo Puccini would have wanted in the role. The Puccini Prize is awarded every year during the “Mese Pucciniano”, the winter festival promoted by the Puccini Festival FoundationSince 1983, the Award was extended to publishing, discography, cinematography, young promises of the lyric theatre and personalities from the world of national and international culture.
