Note: Born in Dublin, John Noel Smith studied at the School of Art, Dún Laoghaire, 1971-76. In 1980 he moved to Berlin where he spent the next twenty-two years, before returning to Ireland and settling in Gorey, Co. Wexford, where he currently lives and works. He has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his career including one in the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1990 and the RHA in 2002. He works with bold colours and shapes on richly textured surfaces, often exploring the ancient language of Ogham.
