Note: This artwork was part of the response of several of the finest visual artists in Ireland to a selection of stories/essays in the anthology: From the Republic Conscience (Liberty Press, 2009).Mick O’Dea’s drawing is for Eugene McCabe’s A Black And White Priestly Garb Topped Off By A Derisory Hag’s Wig.Eugene’s story, a response to Article 6, is a scathing commentary on the workings of the law. In the story, Eugene mentions a shocking incident of verbal racism thathe experienced on a bus while he was a young law student in 1949 Dublin.
