He travelled to Italy, Iceland and India in his youth and these trips may have been an influence on his use of bright colour, which along with a playfulness of form is characteristic of his oeuvre. He worked with Peter Brennan in Kilkenny and in the 1960s at Arklow Studio Pottery.
