Description
Title: GIRL WITH THE SILVER EARRINGS
Note: According to the artist "This enigmatic portrait portrays an intelligent and confident woman, whose intensive gaze evinces a regal yet seemingly curious character. The title of the piece is an obvious reference to Vermeer and perhaps his possible use of double mirrors and the camera obscura system to develop his paintings, further highlighted by the two reflective silver earrings. The treatment of the eyes with their polished inserts lend an individuality and liveliness to the character of the head and is reminiscence of the ancient Greeks method of inserting glass eyes into their figurative sculptures to give a sense of the potent immediacy and lifelike appearance that sculpture could convey."
