Title: LOGS ON A FEN ROAD
Note: John Piper visited Ireland on a number of occasions, including during World War II, to visit his friend John Betjeman, who was an attaché at the British Embassy, and thought by many to be a spy. Artist Patrick Pye recalls attending, with his mother, an exhibition of paintings by Piper “There were a lot of paintings of bombed buildings in Britain, with wonderful pediments and classical facades”. Piper exhibited in the Irish Exhibition of Living Art in 1944 and 1945, where O’Malley became acquainted with him. Correspondence with Piper is in Ernie O’Malley’s archive at New York University.
