Description
Description: The printed sheets listed with the name, occupation, name of holding, amount and arrear of tithes due, how the value of the tithe was ascertained and adjustments. 60pp, folio; together with two Parish Tithes Books, 1826 and 1832, each 8vo, 44pp. An invaluable record for local historians and genealogists
Note: Each year, tithe-owners employed tithe-proctors or valuers to enter each property on which tithes were due to value the crop and thus set the tithe to be paid. Following Catholic Emancipation, political awareness increased and more and more Catholic tenants refused to pay tithes to the Church of Ireland. The Tithe Owner's Relief Fund of 1833 was the third annual fund set up to assist parishes in Ireland who were struggling with the refusals to pay tithes.
