Description
Title: PORTRAIT OF OF A GIRL IN A GREEN SHAWL
Note: William Gale was an Orientalist and painter of the pre-Raphaelite school. Born in London, he was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy 1844-93, the British Institution and at the Royal Society of British Artists. Gale also exhibited in Ireland at the RHA in 1843, 1871, 1872 and 1886.In 1851, he married and travelled to Italy. Like many of his contemporary artists, he travelled the Middle East in 1862 and again 1867. He was a prolific artist; his output included sentimental, biblical and mythological subjects, and portraits and Orientalist pictures. Examples of his work can be found in the Tate [The Confidante, 1857, their reference T00045] in the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre and in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.Presented in what appears to be its original gilt frame.
