Note: The oil painting (48 by 48in.) corresponding to the present sketch was sold for over ten times its estimate [£400,000] in March 2007. The oil was executed in 1947 and exhibited at the RHA, Dublin in 1950 (no. 156, £200.0.0) and at the Royal Scottish Academy. Keating showed sketches of the painting in the Victor Waddington Galleries in 1947.
