Note: Born in Rotterdam, of Dutch-Irish parentage, Hilda von Stockum lived in Dublin from 1927 to 1932 and was one of the leading pupils of Patrick Tuohy and Seán Keating at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. She married an American student at Trinity College, Ervin Ross (‘Spike’) Marlin. The couple later moved to New York, where he joined the OSS and spied in London and Dublin during the second World War. She became a writer and illustrator of children’s books and a painter of some note. She exhibited regularly at the RHA and The Solomon Gallery Dublin up to her death in 2006.
